Pahar (Snake Mountain) that separates the lake from Ajmer and
the legends associated with it is that Kalidas wrote the ‘Abhigyan
Shakuntalam’ in the tranquil location of this lake. According
to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Pushkar Lake originated
from the lotus petal falling from Brahma’s hand and hence
it is considered sacred to take a bath here. Pilgrims coming
here make it a point to visit the Panchkund and a cave located
just near the lake
Pushkar Fair
Honoured as the largest cattle fair in the world held annually
in October/November,Pushkar comes alive with this prodigal fair. The auspicious
day of full moon of Kartik is the most important day of the
fair and pilgrims take a holy bath in the Pushkar Lake with
the hope of attaining nirvana. Artisans and craftsmen from all
across the state come here with their artifacts and shopping
is absolute fun here. Tourists also enjoy a number of cultural
events, puppet shows and camel-cart races in the fair.
Man Mahal
Situated on the banks of Pushkar Lake, Man Mahal is the former
royal residence of Raja Man Singh. Now converted to RTDC Sarover
Tourist Bungalow, this ancient palace makes a true representation
of architectural grandeur of yore.
