The mythological city of Pushkar used to be
a favourite location for the Mughal rulers to

spend their time in peace and quiet. According to history, Pushkar
is the place where the Mughals and British met for the first
time. When the Mughal dynasty fell, it was the Scinidias who
took control of Pushkar and later handed it over to the British.
This made Pushkar to be one of the few places in Rajasthan that
was under the direct control of the British.
Apart from historical tales, Pushkar has some interesting legends
too. One such legend says that during a furious battle between
Lord Brahma and demon Vajra Nabh in the Treta Yuga, Pushkar
was created. Finally it was Lord Brahma who killed the demon
with the strike of a lotus flower. When three petals from the
flower fell down and landed in Pushkar, three lakes along with
Pushkar Lake originated thus making it one of the holy sites
of the country.
The fantastic camouflage of history and mythology make Pushkar
one of the places that you would like to visit during your Rajasthan
tour.
