states. The history of present Palace of Wheels dates back to
the time when every region of Rajasthan were celebrated under
the separate rules of Rajput kings. After independence when
all Rajput states were joined together to form undivided Rajputana
or present Rajasthan, the personal luxurious coaches and trains
left abandoned.
In 1981-82, Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian
Railways decided to launch a special luxury train joining the
highly decorated coaches to offer the tourists a luxurious journey
through Rajasthan. 26 th January 1982 was the first day when
the steam run Palace On Wheels first made its journey through
the heritage land of Rajasthan.
The Train
Fully
air-conditioned luxury train Palace on Wheels comprises of 14
deluxe saloons, one kitchen car with 2 restaurants and 4 service
cars. The 14 coaches carry the memory of former Rajput states
while named after them. The saloons are well equipped with mini
pantry and a lounge.
Each saloon is formed with a combination of 4 twin bedrooms,
which are equipped with all modern amenities like channel music,
intercom, attached toilet, running hot and cold water and other
amenities.
There is one Rajasthani cuisine and one multi cuisine restaurant
in the train that ensures a royal dining experience in the train.
Tourists may also indulge over the international range of wines
in the well stocked bar inside the train.
The Luxury

or train. After independence when the state of Rajasthan was
formed these trains were no longer used. The idea of Palace

luxury coaches of the rulers of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Hyderabad.
The current train is a brand new train, which runs on a meter
gauge line. It has 13 saloon cars, a kitchen car with 2 restaurants
and 4 service cars. Guests on the Palace on Wheels are looked
after by trained personal attendants, dressed in traditional
Rajasthani clothing.
The Royal Train:
The Palace on Wheels has 14 deluxe salon coaches, which are
fully air-conditioned. The interior of each coach is furnished
with the finest taste to enhance the royal ambience of this
luxury train.
Accommodation on the Palace on Wheels consists of cabins with
2 beds. Each cabin has an attached toilet with running hot and
cold water and a shower. Each cabin also has channel music and
an intercom service.
Each coach is named after a different royal state of Rajasthan
and is furnished to match its specific name. Each saloon coach
has a small pantry and a lounge where hot and cold drinks and
snacks are served and the occupants of the saloon can gather
and enjoy their ride on this royal luxury train. Color television
sets and CD players are also part of the equipment of each lounge,
