Mehrangarh Fort
Erected by Maharaja Man Singh, Mehrangarh Fort is an excellent
illustration of the military
might of Rajputs. Mehrangarh fort is spread over 5 kms and is
situated on the edge of an imposing hill. Within Mehrangarh
Fort there are striking palaces, carved balconies and a museum
of weaponry, clothing and artifacts of the Rathore rulers of
Jodhpur.
Umaid Bhawan Palace
Made of sandstone, Umaid Bhawan Palace is an architectural wonder
originally built as an employment generation project during
a year when the state suffered a severe famine. Its beautiful
architecture, heritage ambience and royal grandeur are a sight
to be seen. Today, the Umaid Bhawan Palace has been converted
into a museum and a grand heritage hotel and a section of it
is still used as a residence by the royal family.
Jaswant Thada
This white marble structure is the cenotaph of the rulers of
Jodhpur. It contains memorials of previous kings and nobles
of the Rathore clan. It was built in the memory of Maharaja
Jaswant II. Many tourists flock to his shrine to pay their homage.
Mahamandir Temple
Built in 1812, this striking Mahamandir Temple displays some
exceptional examples of stone carving. The golden sandstone
temple is carved in intricate designs and floral patterns and
is a reminder of the beautiful craftsmanship of the artisans
of Rajasthan.
Giridkot and Sardar Market
These are famous markets of the city where you can shop to your
hearts content.
