A true bird’s haven, Bharatpur is the ultimate destination of the bird lovers to lose themselves in the romantic nature. Though famous as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, the park was officially christened as Keoladeo Ghana National Park, which derived its name from the Lord Shiva Temple with his Keoladeo incarnation and ‘Ghana’ meaning dense and thick forestry. Created by the Maharaja of Bharatpur in 1890, this bird sanctuary was later developed by the renowned ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali in 1982 and was elevated to the status of a National Park. With a huge population of birds dwelling in this unusual park studded with lakes, marshlands and dense forest make Bharatpur a UNESCO declared World Heritage Site, a must visit destination in Indian subcontinent.
